Februrary 23rd is World Spay Day. Spaying and neutering are a safe and responsible choices for both sexes, and will not change your pet’s personality or cause obesity. You will help control overpopulation, and prevent serious disease in your pet. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Indian Peaks Veterinary Hospital at, (303) 938-9474. Here are a few of the medical benefits of spaying and neutering.

  • Intact cats and dogs have a sevenfold-increased risk of mammary tumors vs. spayed animals.
  • Intact cats and dogs are at higher risk for developing a life threatening infection of the uterus known as a pyometra.
  • Spaying a dog virtually eliminates the risk of mammary cancer if done before the first heat cycle (Approximately 6 months of age).
  • Neutering your dog can dramatically decrease his risk of testicular cancer and perianal tumors.  It also reduces the risk of prostate issues.
